Sentimental Value seals historic European Film Awards triumph for Norwegian cinema
Joachim Trier’s drama claims a record six prizes in Berlin, capping a standout night for Nordic cinema on Europe’s biggest stage.
Norwegian films Sentimental Value and The Ugly Stepsister, and Danish documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin are nominated for Academy Awards. All three films are supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
The Norwegian film Sentimental Value (Affeksjonsverdi) continues its award-season run, as the nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were unveiled today, with the Norwegian feature being nominated in eight categories.
Sentimental Value is nominated in heavy categories such as Best Picture (producers Maria Ekerhovd and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar), Best Director (Joachim Trier) and Best Original Screenplay (Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier).
The film leading actress Renate Reinsve is nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role and both Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas are nominated in the category Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Not surprisingly, Stellan Skarsgård is nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
Sentimental Value is also nominated for Best Film Editing (Olivier Bugge Coutté) and Best International Film.
David Borenstein’s Danish documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin is nominated in the category Best Documentary Feature Film, while Emilie Blichfeldt’s feature film The Ugly Stepsister (Den stygge stesøsteren) is nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Anne Cathrine Sauerberg and Thomas Foldberg).
Sentimental Value is Trier’s sixth feature. It is produced by Mer Film and Eye Eye Pictures. Last week the film was awarded a Golden Globe, to Stellan Skarsgård, as well as six European Film Awards CLICK HERE.
The winners of the Academy Awards will be announced on March 15 in Los Angeles.
