Sentimental Value sets an all time Norwegian record with its eight EFA nominations – more than any other film this year.
Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value (Affeksjonsverdi) is dominating the nominations of the 38th European Film Awards with nominations in a total of eight categories, and is therefore competing for more awards than any other film this year in the prestigious hunt of being awarded by the European Film Academy. Not only is the film competing for the most awards this year, but its eight nominations also mark an all-time record for Norway.
The Norwegian feature, produced by Mer Film, is competing in the category European Film, Joachim Trier for European Director, and Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier for European Screenwriter. Renate Reinsve is nominated for European Actress for the second year in a row, and Stellan Skarsgård is nominated for European Actor.
The first nominations were announced last week at Sevilla International Film Festival, where Sentimental Value also won the Puerta América Award. Three more nominations for Sentimental Value were announced today, Wednesday 26. Yngvill Kolset Haga and Avy Kaufman are nominated in the category European Casting Director, Hania Rani for European Composer (Original Score) and Jørgen Stangebye Larsen for European Production Designer.
Two Danish films are also nominated. Sauna, directed by Mathias Broe and produced for Nordisk Film, is nominated in the category European Discovery – Prix FIPRESCI. The 2024 award went to the Nordics, as the Norwegian feature Armand received the prize. Mads Mikkelsen is nominated for European Actor for his role in The Last Viking (Den sidste viking), directed by Anders Thomas Jensen and produced for Zentropa Entertainments.
The documentary Songs of Slow Burning Earth, a Ukrainian-Swedish-Danish-French co-production, is nominated in the categories European Film and European Documentary.
The winners of this year’s European Film Awards will be announced on January 17, 2026 in Berlin.
Liv Ullmann will also receive the honorary European Lifetime Achievement Award at the award ceremony, for her outstanding work as an actress, director and screenwriter, and in recognition of her unique contribution to the art of cinema.
One International Emmy Award to the Nordics
Danish Shaolin Heroes, received the Non-Scripted Entertainment Award in the International Emmy Awards, that were announced at the beginning of this week. There were all in all five Nordic productions among the 64 nominees from 26 countries. The International Emmy Awards (iEmmy) merits excellence in TV works produced and initially aired outside the United States.
Nordisk Film & TV Fond has top financed Sentimental Value and The Last Viking, and supported distribution of Sauna to Iceland.
