DR’s Follow the Money won Best Non-English Language Drama and NRK’s Shame Best Digital Original.
The C21 Drama Awards voted for by around 100 leading drama commissioners were handed out on Wednesday evening in London.
Follow the Money (Bedrag) was preferred to seven other non-English language TV drama contenders, including Case, Black Widows, Public Enemy and Trapped. The Danish TV drama supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond was created by Jeppe Gjervig Gram. DR Sales handles world sales.
The web drama Shame (Skam) written by Julie Andem has gained cult status across the Nordic region (see our story here - CLICK HERE) and has become a benchmark for many broadcasters trying to win back younger online viewers. Beta Film represents it worldwide.
Elsewhere, Netflix was the big winner of the C21 Drama awards 2016, taking home statuettes for Best Returning Comedy drama (Orange is the New Black), Best Returning Series (Narcos) and the C21 Editor’s Choice.
HBO’s The Night of took Best English Language Drama and Best Casting. The Best Male Performance award went to Ben Wishaw for London Spy, while Olivia Coleman took Best Female Performance award for her role in Susanne Bier’s Emmy-winning series The Night Manager.
