Winner of the 2022 Nordic Council Film Prize announced

The Nordic Council Film Prize 2022 goes to the Icelandic film LAMB by film director and screenwriter Valdimar Jóhannsson, screenwriter Sjón, producers Hrönn Kristinsdóttir and Sara Nassim.

The award was announced Tuesday evening November 1, during the Nordic Council’s Autumn Session in Helsinki, Finland.

The Nordic Council Film Prize is one of the most coveted film prizes in Northern Europe. Previous winners include FLEE (2021), LOUDER THAN BOMBS (2016), THE HUNT (2013), PLAY (2012), ANTICHRIST (2009) and YOU, THE LIVING (2007) among others.

The Nordic Council Film Prize also comes with DKK 300,000, which is shared between the director, writers, and producers – as an expression of the fact that film as an art form is the result of a collaboration between these three main functions.

LAMB starring Noomi Rapace and Hilmir Snær Gudnason a.o. is written by the well-known Icelandic writer, Sjón, and film director Valdimar Jóhannsson who also directed the film.

The film world premiered at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard 2021 where it won the ‘Prize of Originality’. It was also honoured with no less than 12 Edda Awards in Iceland in 2022.

The Nordic Council Film Prize has recently been awarded to Jonas Poher Rasmussen for FLEE (2021), Dag Johan Haugerud for BEWARE OF CHILDREN (2020) and May el-Toukhy for QUEEN OF HEARTS (2019)
