The Weinstein Company, one of the leading US distribution companies headed by the Harvey and Bob Weinstein, will release Daniel Espinosa's Swedish crime thriller Easy Money (Snabba Cash) in the US, Germany and Italy.
The producer of the film Fredrik Wikström (Tre Vänner) said that The Weinstein Company will release the film in at least ten US cities in 2011. Remake rights are being negotiated, according to him, and "there is a huge interest" from several parties.
Easy Money rides on the international success of the ‘Millennium' trilogy, currently playing successfully around the word. For Wikström, Easy Money develops the Swedish crime thriller trend by being more realistic and by telling the story from the point of view of the criminals. The film supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond has sold over 600,000 tickets in Sweden so far. It opened in Finland last Friday and took the 11th place at the local Top Ten, a very good start on a Finnish scale according to distributor Sari Selander (Biorex Distribution). Nordisk Film will release Easy Money in Norway in May, and the Danish release is set for this summer. Other territories that have acquired rights from TrustNordisk include Spain (Contracorriente Film), France (MK2), Benelux (Lumiere) and CIS/Baltics (Maywin Media).
