In a unique move, Sweden's commercial broadcaster TV4 has ordered three more seasons of the popular 10 x 30' comedy series Solsidan from producers Jarowskij and Felix Herngren's FLX.
Solsidan is one of TV4's most successful TV series ever. Season Two premiered last January with around 2.5 million viewers and 60% audience share, the third highest overall on Swedish TV in the last ten years. Swedish viewers can now look forward to following the new entertaining stories of Alex (Felix Herngren) Anna (Mia Skäringer), Fredde (Johan Rehborg) and Mickan (Josephine Bornebusch) who live in Stockholm's affluent Saltsjöbaden or ‘Solsidan' (sunny side) neighbourhood.
Fredril Arefalk, head of programming for TV4 said he felt particularly pleased with the continued collaboration with production houses FLX and Jarowskij. "This is a unique television commissioning. To my knowledge, it has never happened before that so many seasons are commissioned at the same time."
Actor/director/writer Herngren said new major characters will be introduced in the new seasons. Shooting of Season 3 will start in the spring 2012.
Season One of Solsidan won two prestigious 2010 Crystal or ‘Kristallen' awards (Swedish equivalent to the Emmy awards) for Best Programme and Best Comedy Programme. The series is nominated again this year for Best Comedy Programme. It will compete against SVT's Starke man and Grotesco, TV4's Cirkus Möller and TV5's Pensionärrsjävlar. The winners of the 2011 Crystal awards will be announced on September 9, 2011.
