Last Friday at the annual Swedish Kristallen TV awards, the sweeping family saga The Restaurant (Vår tid är nu) won Best Drama series and Hedda Stiernstedt Best Actress.
The period drama produced by Jarowskij for SVT and Viaplay, with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond, has been hugely successful in Sweden, with around 2 million average viewers on SVT1 and SVT Play since its launch last October. Viaplay has just started showing season 1 on September 1st.
The event series about the Löwander family and their restaurant in post-war Sweden was created/written by Ulf Kvensler and Johan Rosenlind, together with writer Malin Nevander.
“I’m of course thrilled that Vår tid är nu won two Kristallen awards, but I’m even more excited that we have an amazing second season coming out in a couple of weeks,” said SVT Head of Drama Anna Croneman to nordicfilmandtvnews.com.
While season 1 covered the years 1945-1950, season 2 is set from 1955 to 1962. The premiere on SVT is set for October 1st and a third season covering 1968-1971 is scheduled to premiere on SVT in 2019.
The Swedish pubcaster was the big winner at this year’s Kristallen awards, with nine out of 20 statuettes.
Two awards went to FLX’s series Grotesco sju mästerverk, voted Best Comedy series and Best Actor (Henrik Dorsin). SVT’s youth series Klassen (52x10’), following a group of 11-14 years old kids from an elementary school won Best Children’s programme. The Swedish version of the Danish original show Klassen produced by STV for DR Ultra, was a huge online hit on SVT Play, beating the traditional Christmas calendar series.
The Best Documentary programme went to Hela Sveriges mamma about author and iconic mother of nine Anna Wahlgren.
