Produced by Miso Film the Scandi series The Investigation (6X45'), is written and directed by Tobias Lindholm. It will go into production in 2019.

Miso has partnered with C More/TV4, TV2 Denmark, to bring to the small screen the story of the investigation that enabled Copenhagen Police’s Homicide unit, headed by Jens Møller, to solve the murder of Swedish journalist Kim Wall, perpetrated by Danish submarine builder Peter Madsen in August 2017. Kim Wall's parents are closely involved in the production, together with Møller.

Madsen was sentenced to life in prison in April 2018 for the premeditated murder and sexual assault of the esteemed journalist, who had reported from all parts of the world for distinguished publications including The New York Times, The Guardian and Time magazine. 

Lindholm, the celebrated director of the Oscar-nominated film A War and co-writer of Borgen, will focus exclusively on the investigation, carried out by Head of Homicide Jens Møller, and the methodical, unusual and technical work that enabled him and his team to solve the gruesome murder case.

Kim Wall’s parents Ingrid and Joachim Wall said: “We decided early on that Kim’s fate should not be forgotten and we developed a close relationship with Jens Møller over the course of the case. Our conversations with both Jens and Tobias have caused us to trust that the story of how Kim’s murder was solved will be told from the right perspective and with respect for all who knew and loved Kim.”

Jens Møller said: “A murder case in which you are looking for a submarine, and where you have a perpetrator before you have a body, is by its very nature spectacular. It’s also a case that quite naturally has consumed Kim Wall’s family and friends, and therefore also a case that drew the public’s attention to an unusually high degree.”

For Lindholm, Møller and Ingrid and Joachim Wall’s cooperation was imperative. "In the making of a crime series like this that is built on real events and the life of real people, I cannot and will not act alone,” he said. “I don’t want to make a crime series that is beguiled by the perpetrator or the crime. I am, however, interested in the processes and the people who solved the crime, as well as the people who must go on with their lives despite it. It’s therefore a fully conscious decision that the perpetrator at no time will figure in the series."

Citing his previous works A War and A Hijacking, in which he worked closely with professional soldiers and hostage negotiators, Lindholm said he will use a similar realistic and authentic approach with The Investigation, ’to make a crime series that cuts out all the colourful stuff and depicts the reality and the facts soberly and precisely.’

Miso Film co-founder and producer Jonas Allen said: "I am convinced that Tobias Lindholm with his authentic style and approach, will turn The Investigation into a unique Scandinavian TV-series, and I really see it as a scoop for Scandinavian TV-fiction that Tobias is both writing and directing The Investigation in a time where a lot of major Danish directors turn to USA.”

The 6x45’ series is co-produced with TV 2 Danmark, Sweden’s C More/TV4 and Outline Film, in cooperation with TV 2 Norway, the Copenhagen Film Fund, with support from The Danish Film Institute's Public Service Fund. Fremantle handles world distribution.
