The realistic prison drama Prisoner (Huset) is the next big bet from DR Drama, after the hit shows Cry Wolf, When the Dust Settles, Follow the Money and the earlier cult series Borgen and The Killing.
Seasoned Danish writer Kim Fupz Aakeson known for his intense character-driven film and series (Welcome to Utmark, In Order of Disappearance), has teamed up with two directors, also noted for hard-hitting dramas: Michael Noer (R, Northwest, Papillon, Before the Frost), and Frederik Louis Hviid (Follow the Money 3, Shorta).
Prisoner’s ambition is to depict the challenges prison officers face on a daily basis, both from the inmates and guards viewpoints, in a cocktail where power struggles and violence always lurk.
The series follows four officers working in an old prison, their daily lives and challenges. The story is set over a three month-period and kicks off when the four colleagues are forced to do a thorough investigation in the prison to save their jobs. The prison will ultimately close unless they manage to correct the bad press, hierarchy and drug trade dominating the workplace. The investigation turns into a battle for survival - not only for the prison but for everyone inside and outside the walls.
In the starring roles are Charlotte Fich (Borgen, Manslaughter) who plays head of unit Gert, Sofie Gråbøl (The Killing, The Shift) and David Dencik (No Time to Die, The Chestnut Man), cast as her colleagues Miriam and Henrik, as well as Youssef Wayne Hvidtfeldt (Borgen, Yes No Maybe) who plays their young colleague Sammi.
Co-stars include Bjarne Henriksen (Cry Wolf, The Killing), Laura Christensen (The Kingdom, The Investigation) and Gustav Giese (Northwest, Into the Darkness).
Filming is currently underway and the premiere on the Danish pubcaster DR is set for the fall 2023. DR Sales handles global sales.
