Produced by Helene Lindholm for ATMO, She Monkeys won a total of three awards with Best Script and Sound, closing the film's successful year on the world festival stage that started a year ago with a Dragon Award in Gothenburg. Another critics' favourite, Play won Best Cinematography on top of Best Director. The Plattform production premiered at Cannes' Directors' Fortnight 2011.
The two bigger productions The Crown Jewels (Filmlance International) and Simon and the Oaks (Göta Film) won three and two Guldbagge each. Ella Lemhagen's film won in three new categories for Best Visual Effects, Set Design, and Costume. Lisa Ohlin's WW2 family drama which had received a record number of nominations (13) received two Guldbagge for the Supporting actress Cecilia Nilsson and Supporting Actor Jan Joseph Liefers. The film had just been voted Best Film of 2011 by the audience of the 2012 Gothenburg International Film Festival (GIFF).
Eight years after winning a Best Actress Guldbagge for Björn Runge's Daybreak, Ann Petrén scored again in the same category with Runge's Happy End, while Sven-Bertil Taube won Best Actor for his performance in Richard Hobert's A One-Way to Antibes. In the Documentary genre, the top award went to At Night We Fly by Michel Wenzer, while Göran Hugo Olsson's The Black Power Mixtapes 1967-1975 won Best Editing and Best Music.
