Bill Skarsgård will play the notorious criminal Clark Olofsson in the six-part Swedish series directed by top music video director Jonas Åkerlund.

The series set to world premiere exclusively on Netflix, will be adapted for television by Peter Arrhenius (Conspiracy of Silence), Fredrik Agetoft (Arne Dahl) and Åkerlund from Olofsson’s own biography Vafan var det som hände (lit. What the hell happened?).

The biopic will follow the Swedish gangster’s early days until present time. Olofsson spent half his life in prison for criminal activities between the 60s and 70s, ranging from drug trafficking, attempted murder, assault, theft and dozens of bank robberies.

He was linked to the famous 1973 failed bank robbery in Stockholm after which the term ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ was coined.

Clark is the story about the most politically incorrect man who lived the most politically incorrect life,” said Åkerlund, who describes the series as “an ultra-violent, witty, emotional, real and surreal biography to put a face to the name Stockholm Syndrome.”

It star actor Bill Skarsgård says Clark Olofsson is, "for good and bad, one of Sweden's most colourful and fascinating individuals", adding that the gangster’s life and story “is so incredible and screwed that it would even make Scorsese blush.”

Clark is produced by Börje Hansson and Patrick Sobieski for Scandinavian Content Group (SCG), founded in 2019 following the merger of Hansson’s Bright Pictures, The Broadcast Family and We and the Monkey. Veteran producer Hansson and former Filmlance CEO is head of Drama at SCG, working alongside the company’s CEO Hans Engholm, former head of ITV Studios Nordic, and Chairman Gunnar Bergvall, TV4 founder.

Clark is the latest Swedish Original series commissioned by Netflix after FLX’s hit drama Quicksand and upcoming shows Anxious People by Felix Herngren, based on a Fredrik Backman novel, and romantic dramedy Love & Anarchy by Lisa Langseth.
