For the second year in a row DR Drama’s Ride Upon the Storm has picked up Best Drama series at the annual Danish TV prisen ceremony, held on Saturday in Copenhagen. Season two of Adam Price’s drama beat other high-end contenders including Bron/The Bridge S4, Greyzone, Hånd i hånd, Friheden/Pro’s and Con’s, Kriger/Warrior, Liberty, The Rain and Badehotellet/Seaside Hotel S5.

The opening season of Ride Upon the Storm for which Lars Mikkelsen won an International Emmy award, started airing this Sunday in the UK on Channel 4/All4, as part of Walter Presents’ foreign language strand.
The show won the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize 2018 a year ago in Göteborg.

TV2 Denmark’s period series Badehotellet from co-creators Stig Thorsboe and Hanna Lundblad which has gathered more than 1.5 million average Danish viewers across five seasons, unsurprisingly picked up TV prisen’s “Viewers Award”. A sixth season started airing on TV2/TV2 Play this Monday, January 28.

The award for Best Satire/comedy went to the series 30 produced by Denmark’s Drive Studios for the YouTube Comedy platform. The show follows two high school friends, Julie and Jesper who have just become single and crash into their 30s with existential questions and doubts about their career choices and dating potential. Creators Julie Rudbæka and Jesper Zuschlag play the main characters. 30 is a follow up to the opening season 29, the third season 31 is in production.

  • Best Documentary: Mændene det plyndrede Europa/The Men Who Plundered Europe
  • Best Children’s programme: ’Ramasjang redder bierne (‘Ramansjang Saves the Bees’),  
  • Best Character-driven series: Ranes Museum The annual Danish TV awards voted upon by the Danish TV industry is arranged by the Danish Producers’ Association in collaboration with several Danish TV broadcasters.
