With 137,612 admissions in three days and over 173,000 with preview screenings, the Norwegian stop-motion animation film Solan & Ludvig – Jul i Flåklypa (Solan & Ludvig-Christmas in Pinchliffe ) released by Nordisk Film on 213 screens went straight to number one in Norway and pushed Iron Man 3 to the second place among this year’s top opening films.

According to Nordisk Film, the family film produced by Maipo Film is also the second best Norwegian opener of all time after Kon-Tiki (164,804 opening admissions), above Max Manus (134,504), Headhunters (105,256) and Cold Prey 2 (101,608), all under the distributor’s banner.

Solan & Ludvig – Jul i Flåklypa revives the popular characters from Kjell Aukrust’s universe, featured previously in Norway’s all time best-selling Norwegian film Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (1975). The film directed by Rasmus A. Sivertsen will next open in Denmark on November 28.

Other Norwegian films on last weekend’s top ten according to Filmweb.no include A Thousand Times Good Night that stayed at number six (70,000 total admissions, Euforia Film), the documentary Siblings are Forever, number 7 in its second weekend (14,825 total admissions, Tour de Force), Ragnarok, number nine after six weekends (237,276 total admissions, Nordisk Film) and Detective Downs, number ten after three weekends (46,648 total admissions, Nordisk Film).
