One year after its successful launch in Sundance where the film won the audience award, May el Touhky’s drama won the most Robert awards - nine - including Best Director, making her the first woman ever to receive this accolade. The 10th annual Danish film and television awards took place last night in Copenhagen.

Among the film's top awards are Best Film, Director, Best Script and Lead Actress, for which Trine Dyrholm was already crowned in Göteborg and Zurich. The film produced by Caroline Blanco & René Ezra for Nordisk Film Production was the 2019 Nordic Council Film Prize winner. 

Niels Arden Oplev’s hostage drama Daniel produced by Toolbox Film was the second biggest film winner with four awards for Best Adapted Screenplay (Anders Thomas Jensen), Actor (Esben Smed), Supporting Actress (Sofie Torp) and Award Audience. 

The Academy-award nominated The Cave by Feras Fayyad picked up Best Documentary and Wille & Rasmussen’s Gooseboy Best Children & Youth Film. 

Although nominated in 13 categories, Michael Noer’s Before the Frost had to settled with one statuette for Best Costume Design (Louize Nissen). 

Other film winners were 

  • Resin by Daniel Borgman, awarded Best Set Design (Josefine Farsø) and Makeup (Sara Sofia Nissen)
  • Valhalla by Fenar Ahmad - Best Visual Effects (Jonas Frehn & Jan Tvilling)
  • Suicide Tourist by Jonas Alexander Arnby - Best Original Song by Mikkel Hess & Kaya Wilkins.  

The Best Short/Animated (under 30’) went to Ikki Illa meint by Andrias Høgenni, the Best Short (above 30’) to A Fling by Marianne Lentz and Short Doc to Amphi by Mathias Broe. 

SF Studios’s release Joker won Best English-language film and Camera Film’s Parasite Best Non-English Language Film. 

In the TV category, DR Drama’s Follow the Money 3 dominated with three wins for Best TV Drama of the year, Best Actress (Maria Rich) and Supporting Actor (Jacob Hauberg Lohmann), while Deliver Us’ lead actor Morten Hee Andersen won in his category.

DR’s short form Doggystyle 2 scooped Best Supporting Actress (Josephine Park) and Drive Studios’ 31 Best Short TV series. 

As expected the TV Audience Award went to TV2’s period drama Seaside Resort (Badehotellet) season 6, most watched Danish series of 2019 with nearly 1.6 million viewers and a record 62.8% share.

Nordisk Film & TV Fond was associated to 14 Robert awards for Queen of Hearts, Daniel and Valhalla.
