Starting in the fall 2023, the deal will give Nordic Prime Video customers access to hundreds of Nordic and international exclusive films, on top of library films and kids content from Nordisk Film.

Among the Nordic titles part of the three-year output deal are the upcoming films The Kiss by Bille August, the Norwegian family film Den første julen i skomakergata by Mikal Hovland, the Swedish animated film Bamse and the World’s Smallest Adventure by Christian Ryltenius, as well as the major library titles Another Round, Three Wishes for Cinderella and Sune.

International films also to be offered to Nordic Prime Video customers include John Wick: Chapter 4 starring Keanu Reeves and Bill Skarsgård, The Hunger Games prequel: Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes, and The Fabelmans by Steven Spielberg.

”We are very excited to enter into this new deal with Prime Video in the Nordics,” said Kenneth Wiberg, Senior Vice President, Nordisk Film. “Prime Video is a top-tier streaming service offering great content, and we are thrilled that Amazon has decided to boost its Nordic presence, and that Nordisk Film can be a part of that journey.“

“Nordisk Film Distribution continues to develop, acquire, and distribute the best international and the most anticipated local language feature films throughout Nordics. And with this new and very exciting deal, we underline our position as the market frontrunner when it comes to attractive content and ground-breaking distribution partnerships. Our new deal with Prime Video will strengthen our position as Scandinavia’s top content powerhouse,” Wiberg added.

The deal with Nordisk Film was announced October 27 in Stockholm at a high-profile Prime Video event where Andreas Hjertø, Head of Nordic Content, and Karin Lindström, Head of Nordic Originals, presented clips of Prime Video’s first Swedish original series - Toppen produced by FLX.

The 6x30’ show created by Jessica Ericstam and Adrian Boberg is a contemporary comedy “that provides laugh-out-loud characters and situations, with elevated twists of satire and politics, against a local backdrop”, as stated by FLX. In the title roles are Robert Gustafsson, Sissela Benn and Klara Hodell Risberg. Toppen directed by Sara Haag is due to premiere in 240 international countries later this year.

Prime Video also introduced sneak peeks of the Banijay format The Bridge, set to launch in four Nordic countries November 4, with Meter Television, Mastiff Norway, Metronome and Endemol Shine Finland producing the local versions.

The US streamer’s Nordic executives also announced the commissioning of four new reality shows, set to have local versions in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden: the competition game LOL, Last One Laughing hosted by Eva Röse, the hidden camera show Pranked, dating format Sweathearts and island survival show Good Lucky Guys. In total 18 new local productions were announced on Thursday.

In a statement, Prime Video's head of UK and Nordic Content Martin Backlund said the commissioned of new unscripted and scripted originals, alongside the landmark Nordisk Film deal are indicative of the US group’s “long-term ambition to continue to grow Prime Video in the Nordics by investing in strong local partnerships in the region.”
