In its March round of support Nordisk Film & TV Fund has allocated a total of NOK3.525.000 in development and production support to five films. Fantefilm's Viking epic Gåten Ragnarok received the largest production grant (NOK1.750.000) and Lars von Trier's Nymphomaniac NOK250.000 in development support.
Trier's new project which he described to us as ‘a hard chore pornographic film' is set to start shooting this summer with Stellan Skarsgård confirmed in the cast. The project split into eight chapters, is a "light and poetic story of a woman's erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-?diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe". Louise Vesth is producing for Zentropa.
Gåten Ragnarok is a Viking epic for the family directed by Mikkel B. Sandemose (Cold Prey 3) for Fantefilm. Production on the film scripted by John Kåre Raake is set to start on May 2. Cast and crew details will be announced next week.
The Finnish comedy August Fools directed by Taru Makelä (Jussi Audience award for The Storage) was awarded NOK1.250.000 in production support. The Kinosto production is a romantic comedy set against the political backdrop of the Cold War.
Two documentaries received production support: The Icelandic Ash directed by Herbert Sveinbjörnsson for Spier Films and Edisons Moving Pictures was awarded NOK180,000. The film follows three farmers living beneath the volcano Eyjafjallajokull that erupted in 2010. Thea and the Wild River is a drama-documentary for children aged three to six. The film directed by Jacob Wellendorf for Copenhagen Film Company focuses on Thea (3) and her sister Chloe (5) who go camping with their parents in France. The sisters are best friend, but one day, Thea is left alone because Chloe finds a new play mate. The film was awarded NOK95,000.
