Produced by Erik Hemmendorff for Plattform Produktion, the Swedish film Tourist deals with well-to-do middle class Swedes on holiday. Through a state of emergency, they come into contact with human mechanisms that they never had to confront before. Östlund who kicked off his directing career with skiing films, will create the greatest avalanche scene ever seen on screen. Filming starts next month and according to Hemmendorff, a ‘very exciting Swedish/Norwegian cast will be announced soon". Delivery date is scheduled for February 2014. The Coproduction Office is co-producing and handling sales.
Niels Arden Oplev's Kapgang (English title not available) will be the director of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo's comeback to Danish filmmaking after his three-year Hollywood stint where he shot the Noomi Rapace/Colin Farrell vehicle Dead Man Down. Kapgang will be a loose follow up to his 2006 award-winning We Shall Overcome. Bo hr. Hansen has written the script based on Morten Kirkskov's novel ‘Kapgang'. Set in a small village in the mid-1970s, it's the story of a teenager who navigates through a couple of defining weeks of adolescence. Cinematographer Rasmus Videbæk (A Royal Affair) is attached to the project that received NOK 1,500,000 from the Fund. Thomas Heinesen is producing for Nordisk Film. The premiere is set for February 2014.
Hallåhallå by Swedish director Maria Blom (Dalecarlians) was awarded NOK1,400,000. The Memfis Film production is a warm comedy about love set in the director's beloved Swedish region of Dalecarlia. In the main roles are Maria Sid, Johan Holmberg, Ann Petrén and Gunilla Roos. SF will release it in January 2014.
Dagur Kári Pétursson's upcoming Icelandic Rocket Man produced by Baltasar Kormákur's Blueeyes Productions was awarded NOK1,250,000. Gunnar Jónsson plays Fusi, a 43 year-old man still living with his mother. When a woman unexpectedly enters his world, he is forced to take action. Filming starts this month.
A Patriotic Man directed by Arto Halonen (Princess) for his company Art Films Production was awarded NOK1,000,000. The drama focuses on sports doping culture. It's the story of Toivo who has a rare blood type. His haemoglobin levels are high and his O- blood is compatible with everyone. This makes him the secret weapon for the Finnish national ski team's great hope Aino. Filming between Finland, Croatia and Slovenia starts this month.
The Swedish animation project Emil & Ida in Lönnerberga produced by Lars Blomgren for Filmlance International was awarded NOK1,250,000. The project directed by Per Åhlin is based on Astrid Lindgren's popular children's books. The domestic premiere via SF Film is scheduled for Christmas 2013.
The documentaries Light Fly, Fly High by Norway's Susann Østigaard (Fri Film) and Break of Dawn by Denmark's Berit Madsen (Radiator Film) were awarded NOK 325,000 and NOK 350,000 each. Both films feature young women struggling to break away from traditions and to fulfil their dreams. In Light Fly, Fly High, An Indian woman want to become a boxer and in Break of Dawn, the 17 year-old Iranian Sepideh is hoping to become an astronaut. The Danish documentary in post-production was shown as a work in progress at the last Nordic Film Market in Gothenburg.
Finnish director Virpi Suutari was awarded NOK 220,000 for her documentary Garden produced by MADE and Norway's Gunhild Westhagen Magnor was awarded NOK 350,000 for The Optimists produced by Skofteland Film.
