Nordisk Film & TV Fond grants NOK 16 million to eight new projects

In its December round of support, the Fund has allocated production support to four new feature films, three drama series and three documentaries.

Feature Film

  • There’s Something in the Barn
    Grant: NOK 3,000,000
    Recipient: 74 Entertainment, Norway

    Logline: When an American family moves to an old farm in Norway, nothing goes as planned. The dream of the perfect life is shattered by someone who already lives on the farm - an ancient, grumpy barn elf who hates noise, bright lights and anything modern.

    Filming of the genre movie tagged as Gremlins meets Home Alone, was locked just before Christmas 2022. The film is being produced by Norway’s 74 Entertainment, with Finnish co-producers Don Films, Lithuania’s ArtBox, co-financing from US-based XYZ Films, Business Finland, Coficine, the Finnish Film Foundation and Filminvest.
  • Stockholm Bloodbath (Stockholms blodbad)

    Logline: The sisters Anne and Freja seek revenge against the men who killed their family at Anne's wedding. Their search takes them to Stockholm, where they become a part of a mass execution that is remembered in history as the Stockholm Bloodbath.The English-language epic film is being co-produced by Lone Korslund at Nordisk Film. Filming just wrapped mid-January.
  • Cychosis (Cykose)

    Logline: After a near-death experience, Lulu has a feeling that someone or something is after her. Is there, or is it Lulu's head turning crazy?

  • Laura
    Grant: NOK1,500,000

    Logline: On a couch-surfing trip through Europe, Laura wakes up naked having had sex with a stranger. Without any memories of the night she begins to explore her own boundaries, in denial of an increasing fear – that the forgotten night wasn’t voluntary.

    Ovesen, the Swedish talent established in Oslo won the Nordic Talent Best Pitch Award in 2018 for the project and has received multiple distinctions for her graduation film She-Pack. She was episodic director of the Discovery+ series NACH and conceptual director of the SVT series All That Remains.

    Filming of Laura is due to start this summer, with the delivery date set for the fall 2024.

  • Cinderpaw (Askelabben)

    Logline: Being the youngest puppy of three, Cinderpaw is quite a mummy’s boy dog. Constantly tormented by his older brothers, Cinderpaw is a real underdog doing the biggest heist in the history of all paws!

    Lisa Marie Gamlem is credited for the Cannes short film competition entry Cold (Kjøttsår) in 2011 and as co-director of Captain Sabertooth and the Treasure of Lama Rama. Her new animated 3D feature for 8-12 years-old is currently in pre-production.

TV SERIES

  • Dates in Real Life
    Format: 7x30’

    Logline: Ida (25) knows everything about the world, but lives her entire social life online. When she is dumped by her internet-boyfriend Marvin, her journey to find a new partner in the physical world - IRL- begins.

    The series is due to start filming late February. NRK’s Dates in Real Life was co-financed by SVT, Yle, DR, RÚV, with support from the Norwegian Film Institute. The premiere on NRK is set for 2024.
  • The Sandbox (Sandkassen)
    Format: 26x3’
    Grant: NOK 500,000
    Recipient: Made by Us, Denmark

    Director: Carl Quist-Møller
    Commissioner: DR Minisjang
    Logline: The Sandbox is told through the two little ladybird siblings, Marie and Bror, who live in a sandbox. Marie doesn't really want to play with Bror but his musicality and ingenuity reminds her that the adventure is found playing with each other.

    The pre-school series was co-financed by DR, the Vestdanske Filmpulje and the Danish Film Institute. It is due to premiere on the Danish kids channel DR Minisjang in the fall 2024.
  • Woodlings (Vildyr)
    Format: 26x5’
    Grant: NOK 500,000
    Recipient: Toolbox, Denmark

  • Writers/Directors: Malene Vilstrup, Trylle Vilstrup
    Commissioner: DR Minisjang
    Logline: Woodlings is a story of friendships in the wood between funny Fox, wise Dear, brave Squirrel and concerned Rabbit. Together they explore the wood which is full of adventure and little challenges they overcome while they experience the turn of the year.

    The pre-school TV show was co-produced by Vilstrup & Vilstrup for DR Minisjang, SVT and Oiii. The premiere is set for May 1st, 2024.

Documentaries

  • Curtain Call (Siste Wingeslag)

    Logline: Curtain Call is a creative documentary, where the life and art of one of Norway’s most distinct stage artists, Stein Winge and his family, sets the framework to tell a layered, moving and timeless story.

    The co-production with Denmark’s Copenhagen Film Company, has received co-financing from NRK, DR, Yle, SVT, RÚV, support from the Norwegian Film Institute, The Bergesen Foundation, The Free Speech Foundation, Kulturrådet & Fond for lyd og bilde). Delivery is set for the Christmas.
  • The Renaissance Prince (Renessanseprinsen)

    Logline: 18-year-old painter William Heimdal rejects the artistic and cultural trends of the 21st century. He sees himself as a man out of time, and longs for past centuries in which a classical painters’ genius was universally recognised.
  • Mina and the Radio Banditsm (Mina og røverne)
    Grant: NOK 550,000
    Recipient: Fluglene, Norway

    Domestic distribution: Norsk Filmdistribusjon, NRK
    Logline: The Bandit Radio gets broadcasted from inside prison. Mina Hadjian used to be Norway's biggest radio star before she was fired because of turbulent behaviour on air. A film about what a 46-year-old woman can achieve with journalism and love as weapons.

    Gunnarsson says Hadjian and Moe have known each other for several years and the radio personality contributed to the impact campaign and launch of Noe’s previous film Rebels, about disenchanted youth.

    The film co-produced by NRK, has received co-financing from SVT, RÚV, Fritt Ord, support from the Norwegian film institute, and The Audioand Visual Fund. Editing is being completed in different stages, until October 2023, and filming will be locked later this year.

DISTRIBUTION AND DUBBING SUPPORT

  • NOK 110,000 to Myndform, Iceland for the release of the Norwegian animated film Three Robbers and a Lion
  • NOK 20,000 to Angel Distribution, Denmark for the release of the Swedish film Boy from Heaven

INDUSTRY INITIATIVES SUPPORT

  • NOK 650,000 to the Göteborg Film Festival towards Nordisk Film Market
