Nordisk Film & TV Fond has partnered with the Far East Film Festival in Udine (Italy) to strengthen Nordic and Asian genre film exchanges.
Far East Film Festival is the largest festival in Europe for popular Asian cinema, screening around 70 films from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam.
This year the festival’s industry event Focus Asia will launch its first Genre Project Market (April 26-28) that will include one-to-one meetings, panel discussions and case studies on development strategies, and genre film financing and distribution.
Around 12 feature film projects in development, with strong co-production or co-financing potential within Asia or Europe, will be selected.
As new partner to Focus Asia, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and its NORDIC GENRE BOOST initiative will take part in the selection process, alongside other key collaborators including the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (South Korea), Black Nights Film Festival - Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event (Estonia), and Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (Spain).
Nordisk Film & TV Fond will also do a presentation in Udine of NORDIC GENRE BOOST and will attend the market with a delegation of Nordic genre film professionals.
Petri Kemppinen, CEO at Nordisk Film & TV Fond said: "As several Nordic genre filmmakers are interested in the Asian market, we are pleased to collaborate with the prestigious Far East Film Festival and its newly established Focus Asia Genre Project Market, and to have a chance to present our successful NORDIC GENRE BOOST scheme to other European and Asian genre film specialists.”
Sabrina Baracetti, president of the Far East Film Festival said: “Focus Asia represents a unique opportunity to bring closer Asian and European genre film professionals. We are honoured to have established an official partnership with Nordisk Film & Fond’s NORDIC GENRE BOOST. This collaboration could give FOCUS ASIA an access to some of the most active Nordic genre filmmakers and producers, and reversely Nordic genre film specialists will have a direct connection to the Asian genre film market in Udine thanks to the Far East Film Festival.”
The deadline to apply to Focus Asia’s Genre Project Market 2017 is March 1st, 2017. For further information about the festival and its call for applications, CLICK HERE.
