Denmark’s Heartbound picked Best Documentary in Zurich and Iceland’s Woman at War the Art Cinema Award in Hamburg.
Both films were supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Heartbound co-directed by Janus Metz and his partner Sine Plambech, was handed out the handsome cash prize of CHF 25,000 (€22,000) at Saturday’s closing night of the 14th Zurich Film Festival. The film about cross-cultural marriages between Thai women and Danish men shot over a decade, had its world premiere in Toronto.
Other Nordic films awarded in Zurich include The Guilty by Gustav Möller (DK), winner of the Critics’ Choice for Best Debut Feature in the main competition section, and Los Bando by Christian Lo (NO), winner of the Kids Jury Award.
Meanwhile the Nordic Council Film Prize nominee Woman at War by Benedikt Erlingsson which opened the 26th Filmfest Hamburg, grabbed the festival’s €5,000 Art Cinema Award from CICAE (International Association of Arthouse cinemas). Pandora Film Verleigh will release it in German cinemas on December 13, 2018.
The Swedish comedy Solsidan by Felix Herngren, Måns Herngren was awarded the Commerzbank Audience Award worth €5,000 from the ‘Eurovisuell’ section dedicated to European box office hits.
