Launched on December 8, Arrow TV is the new curated SVOD service in the UK offering a variety of high premium Nordic and world drama series via Amazon.co.uk.

One of the biggest buyers of Nordic scripted content and contributor to the Nordic noir wave in the UK since 2012, the indie distributor Arrow Films has adapted its business to the gradual shift from physical to digital distribution.

Arrow TV dedicated to drama series on Amazon channels, sits next to the company’s existing brands Arrow Films for theatrical releases, Arrow Video for cult/horror films, and Arrow Academy for masters of cinema.

Daniel Perry, former Disney and ITV Studios TV executive and now Arrow Films’ Head of Digital Strategy said that with Arrow TV, the distribution group wants to focus ‘more than ever on audience choice’ and on the added-value of ‘human curated’ viewing of TV series, vs algorithm and data-driven drama viewing on Netflix. “We have a great track record in bringing the best new drama shows to the UK and will continue to do so and even find new ways to reintroduce some shows that have perhaps been overlooked by the audience during their first airing."

Tom Stewart, Head of Acquisition adds that the vital element for Arrow Films is to close ‘all rights deals to TV series that could be the next big thing’.

Among Nordic titles available for bingeing on Arrow TV is The Killing Seasons 1&2, Fjällbacka Murders season 1 and The Bridge season 1.

Perry said Arrow Films is working closely with the BBC on the launch of The Bridge season 4. “We want to make 2018 the year of The Bridge. UK audience’s expectation is huge, especially for the closing season that ends by choice, not for a lack of demand. We have great campaign ideas and want to celebrate not only The Bridge but the entire Nordic content in our catalogue.”

On the theatrical side, Arrow Films has acquired the Finnish war blockbuster The Unknown Soldier by Aku Louhimies and intends to release it in UK cinemas in 2018.
