The Norwegian Christmas film Carpenter Andersen Meets Santa Claus dominates the Norwegian chart for the 5th consecutive week. The film based on the beloved literary classic by Alf Prøysen from 1959 has sold a total of 378,890 tickets so far and is number four on Norway’s top film chart 2016. Due to popular demand, Nordisk Film has added venues (from 111 screens last weekend to 128), enabling the film to up its admissions by 4% week on week. 

Two other Norwegian films are steadily adding numbers to their top BO. Last weekend The King’s Choice was playing at number 13 after 12 weeks on screens. Erik Poppe’s historical drama distributed by Nordisk Film is the biggest hit of the year with 703,765 admissions. 

The action adventure Børning 2-on ice under SF Studios banner was number 14 after 9 weeks. Its total count of 434,445 makes it the second biggest film of 2016. 

The next major Norwegian release scheduled for Christmas day is the stop motion animation film In the Forest of Huckybucky by Rasmus A. Sivertsen (SF Studios). 

In Denmark another local Christmas family film has strong legs: after six weeks on screens, Carsten Rudolf’s Familjen Jul nissernes land –sequel to the 2014 The Christmas Family came in at number two last weekend, just under The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film has sold 19,452 tickets so far for Angel Films. The local Christmas comedy Undercover starring Roland Møller and Linda P played at number 6 for Scanbox and sold an extra 7,740 tickets in its third weekend to reach 42,804. 

On the arthouse market, Camera Film is doing extremely with the critically acclaimed German film Toni Erdmann that ranked number four in its second weekend. Total admissions from 104 screens are 36,588. Camera Film just released yesterday on 13 screens the Swedish film A Serious Game by Pernilla August. 

The latest Danish title that hit local screens yesterday is the family film Iqbal and the Superchip (Nordisk Film), sequel to the 2015 film Iqbal and the Secret Recipe that sold more than 200,000 tickets last year at the same period.

In Finland SF Studios/WB’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them kept its top ranking for the third weekend in a row. 

The local comedy Reunion 2 stayed at number five for Nordisk Film. Total admissions after seven weeks on screens are 274,080. 

The documentary Eput the Movie about the popular local rock band was number six for SF Studios. The film directed by Saku Pollari has sold 24,046 tickets in its second weekend. Meanwhile the family film Tatu and Patu has now passed the 300,000 admissions milestone after eight weeks on screens for Nordisk Film.

In Sweden Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them tops the local charts in its fifth week. The first local film at number 13 is the comedy Morran och Tobias-som en skänk från ovan, spin off to the 2014 web series about the dysfunctional mother/son comic duo played by Johan Rheborg and Robert Gustafsson. After 8 weeks on screens the film has sold 240,109 tickets. Robert Gustafsson will also be on the silver screen on Christmas day for the much anticipated new adventures of Allan Karlsson in The 101 Year Old Man who Skipped out on the Bill and Disappeared distributed Buena Vista/Walt Disney. The same day Nordisk Film will release the Swedish animation film Bamse and the Witch’s Daughter. The first film of the series about the ‘World’s strongest bear’ sold more than 330,000 tickets in 2014.

In Iceland where US films dominate heavily the Top charts, two documentaries playing at Bió Paradis were in the top 20: Baskavígin: The Slaying of the Basque Whalers was number 15 and InnSæi – the Sea within number 17. Each film has sold respectively 800 and 2,055 tickets. The thriller A Conspiracy of Faith, the third film in the Department Q series, is number 17 after four weeks on screens via Sena. The Danish film totals 1,101 admissions. Baltasar Kormákur’s The Oath is still playing in one cinema after 14 weeks and is the top selling film of the year so far with 43,662 admissions for Sena.
