Nordisk Film handles the domestic release. Salim’s graduation film from the National Film School of Denmark, the short film Land of our Fathers, won a Special Mention at Haugesund’s Next Generation and was nominated for the 2018 Robert Awards. The young director of Iraqi descents attended Nordic Talents 2017 where we selected him among ‘Five to Watch’, following his pitch for Danmarks sønner (lit ‘Sons of Denmark’), which has now been greenlit.
The political thriller is produced by Salim’s Danish film school colleague Daniel Mühlendorph for their company Hyæne Film. The story is set in Copenhagen, on the eve of the anniversary of a bomb attack in the Danish capital and of Parliamentary elections. The leader of the far-right movement Martin Nordahl (Rasmus Bjerg) is preparing for a landslide victory that could secure him the post of Prime Minister. Meanwhile Zakaria (played by newcomer Mohammed Ismail Mohammed), a radicalised youth, is moving on a dangerous track. He meets Malik (Zaki Youssef), who fights his own battle and carries a life-threatening secret. The film is a tale of hope that also questions the enemy images created in the name of fear.
The Danish theatrical release is set for March 28 2019.
