Ahlsson will be working alongside Nordic Drama Queens’ three founders and producers Josefine Tengblad, Sandra Harms and Line Winther Skyum Funch, as well as Eiffel Mattson.

The Dalarna native has an impressive track record as producer and talent supporter. Under her previous position as Head of the Swedish Film Institute’s talent development scheme Moving Sweden, she has backed some of Sweden’s most talented directors such David Sandberg, whose 2015 Cannes selected short Kung Fury was watched by 50 million online fans, Jesper Ganslandt (Jimmie), Morgane Dziurla-Petit (Excess Will Save Us), and most recently Isabella Carbonell, selected for Venice’s Critics Week with Dogborn.

In her earlier position as producer for Tre Vänner (now SF Studios), she produced Lisa Langseth’s Pure which launched Alicia Vikander on the international film circuit, and Camilla Läckberg’s adaptations The Fjällbacka Murders and The Hidden Child.

Ahlsson’s own film Armwrestler from Solitude co-directed with Lisa Munthe won a Swedish Guldbagge award for Best Documentary.

“I have worked with Helen on several occasions before and was always impressed by her drive, stubbornness and passion for producing film and TV,” said Nordic Drama Queens co-founder Sandra Harms. “After years as commissioning editor at Moving Sweden, Helen also has the best possible knowledge on new talent in the industry. That, combined with an extensive experience as a producer, is very unique and something we are thrilled to strengthen the company with.”

“Josefine, Line, Sandra and the whole team in Stockholm, Copenhagen and LA, vibrate with possibilities, ambitions and new ways of thinking. After many years in the greatest film bunker in the world, I was longing back to production and the choice of Nordic Drama Queens was an easy one,” Ahlsson said.

Founded in 2021, with the backing of US group Endeavor Content, Nordic Drama Queens’ ambition is to create premium Scandinavian drama content from established and new voices, for the local and global markets.

The first project slated to start filming in 2023 is C More/Tv4’ series Cry Wolf (Vargasommar), co-written by The Bridge’s Hans Rosenfeldt and Camilla Ahlgren, based on Rosenfeldt’s eponymous first solo novel (See separate story: CLICK HERE).

Next up is Nemesis directed by Emmy-award winner Cecilie Mosli, based on a script by Camilla Ahlgren, Hilde Susan Jægtnes (Occupied 3) and Jenny Lund Madsen (Follow the Money, Rita). The TV project is being produced with The Oslo Company and Denmark’s Snowglobe. The series centres on a mother who takes fate into her own hands when her son is killed and justice falls victim to big politics.
