The current producer and CEO at the genre-oriented 74 Entertainment, is due to take up his new role in March 2023.

Omberg has an impressive CV spanning production and distribution over nearly three decades.

As a producer, he has worked on nearly 30 films, quickly finding his niche in genre movies, produced via Tappeluft Pictures and most recently via 74 Entertainment, set up in 2017 with Jorgen Storm Rosenberg.

Films on his production credit list include Tommy Wirkola’s Dead Snow, The Trip (playing on Netflix), Opportunity Knocks, and Viaplay’s first original Norwegian film Gold Run, launched December 15, 2022. His upcoming major productions for 74 Entertainment include Tina & Bettina 2, and the Christmas horror comedy There's Something in the Barn, backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.

Before turning to production, Kjetil worked for 15 years in distribution, for some of Norway’s most established companies including Arthaus, Norsk Filmdistribusjon and Sandrew Metronome which released the Warner Bros features in Norway. He eventually founded the company Euforia Film in 2008.

Commenting on his appointment, Kjersti Mo, director of the Norwegian Film Institute (NFI) said: “Kjetil has fresh and extensive experience from various industry areas supported by the Norwegian Film Institute, and with him on board, we will strengthen the NFI's activities with, among other things, production financing and international positioning. I am very happy that he will contribute with his expertise and I am looking forward to having him in the management group.”

Omberg said he is pleased to be able to contribute to further developing Norwegian films and the local industry. “For a passionate film lover with experience from several parts of the ecosystem, it feels like a natural step to now step up to the new challenging role as department director at the Norwegian Film Institute.”

Omberg is taking over from Lars Løge who stepped down last October to pursue other activities in the private sector.
