Erik Poppe’s best-selling film has received 12 nominations at the national Norwegian film awards, beating the last record holder Max Manus (10 nominations). The two films that deal with national resistance against Nazi Germany during WW2 were big national box office hits and represented Norway at the Academy Awards.

The King’s Choice which had a record 730,556 admissions between 2016-2017 is competing against two other local hits for Best Film, Best Visual Effects and Best Sound Design: the animated film In the Forest of Huckybucky (Qvisten Animation) and Børning 2 (Filmkameratene).

The second most nominated film with five accolades is Motlys’ The Rules of Everything for which Kim Hiorthøy can win for Best Director and Best Music. In the Forest of Huckybucky directed by Rasmus A. Sivertsen comes third with five nominations, followed by Izer Aliu’s debut feature Hunting Flies, running for Best Director, Script and Cinematography.

Worth stressing are Anders Baasmo Christiansen’s double nomination for Best Actor (The Tree Feller) and Best Supporting Actor (The King’s Choice), and the double nomination of Sara Johnsen’s film Framing Mom in the Best Actress category, putting Ruby Dagnall and Tuva Novotny head to head. Also, Tongue Cutters directed by Solveig Melkeraaen, is running both for Best Children’s Film and Best Documentary.

Nordisk Film & TV Fond is associated to 24 nominations for The King’s Choice (12), In the Forest of Huckybucky (5), Børning 2 (3), Framing Mom (2) and The Lion Woman (2).
