TV2 Denmark’s current Head of Drama will be joining the Scandinavian giant August 15 to drive the group’s film and series expanding output.

Vogelsang is one of the most respected and high-powered TV executives in the Nordic region, having played a key role in TV2 Denmark’s successful fiction expansion over the last 11 years in her role as Head of Drama.

The former production graduate from the National Film School of Denmark has commissioned some of the most high-profile Danish series in recent years, from Lone Scherfig’s The Shift, Thomas Lindholm’s The Investigation, to the multi-season hits Seaside Hotel, The Sommerdahl Murders, Rita, Dicte, The New Nurses, and Christmas calendar series.

According to a statement from Nordisk Film, in her new position at the Egmont-controlled audiovisual group, Vogelsang will “have the overall responsibility of defining the direction of Nordisk Film Production’s content, talent development and the continued expansion in the Nordic region, including ensuring a continued high number of productions, accelerating series ventures, further strengthening internal collaboration at Nordisk Film and setting the overall direction for external partners, broadcasters, streaming services.”

She will work with Henrik Zein, current CEO, who will continue as COO and will report to her.

“I’m excited to return to the production of films and series and be right where the content is created,” said Vogelsang. “Nordisk Film Production has an extremely strong foundation, and I’m looking forward to creating even more creative stories and engaging content of the highest quality together with Henrik Zein and all the skilled producers, creative talents and employees at Nordisk Film. The market has never been more complex with myriad buyers and battle for creative talent, and I hope that my experience and knowledge from broadcasting and streaming can push this exciting development of Nordisk Film Production forward.”

Zein who is currently overseeing the production of more than 30 films and series across the Nordics, added: “We have established Nordisk Film Production in Scandinavia as a House of Talent where some of the most creative talents have found a home. We have expanded our palette with the production of series and significantly strengthened our talent work. Nordisk Film Production has never been in a stronger position, however, in an ever growing and more professionalised and globalised market, we need to expand our strategic and management bandwidth. Katrine Vogelsang is therefore a major addition to Nordisk Film Production and I’m really looking forward to realising our many ambitious plans together with her."

In a separate statement, TV2 Denmark also praised Vogelsang’s exceptional achievements at the helm of its drama department since 2011, which has grown from a single to double figure production volume a year, while drama will continue to “play an important role in TV 2's group strategy until 2025.”

TV2’s content director Lotte Lindegaard also underscored the strong team at the channel’s drama department which will enable it to fulfil its drama ambitions until 2025 - READ HERE.

TV2’s current Deputy Head of Drama Mette Nelund will take over the role of Head of Drama until a substitute to Vogelsang is found.

Until her departure from TV2 mid-August, Vogelsang said she will complete a number of tasks, including trying to find a solution to the public broadcasting group’s current challenge regarding rights to Danish fiction works. Indeed TV2 (as well as Netflix and Viaplay) has put on hold the development and production of all Danish drama content due to an-on-going dispute about artists’ remuneration - SEE OUR STORY - CLICK HERE.

Among TV2’s upcoming event series are two Zentropa productions: Thomas Vinterberg’s first foray into long-form fiction Families Like Ours, set to start filming in September, and DNA season 2 created by Torleif Hoppe.
