New cast members added to the mega-project produced by Final Cut for Real include The Queen’s Gambit’s Moses Ingram and Nocturnal Animals’ Michael Shannon.
The highly anticipated golden-age musical about the last human family by double-Oscar nominated Oppenheimer (The Act of Killing, The Look of Silence) just started filming in Ireland and will continue in Italy and Germany.
On top of the previously announced Tilda Swinton and George MacKay, the English-language feature also stars Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit, Obi-Wan-Kenobi), Michael Shannon (double Oscar nominated for Nocturnal Animals and Revolutionary Road), singer/actress Bronagh Gallagher (The Commitments, Pulp Fiction), Tim McInnerny (Notting Hill, Game of Thrones) and Lennie James (The Walking Dead, Jericho).
Commenting on the new set of actors, Oppenheimer said: “I am thrilled to be making The End in collaboration with this miraculous ensemble of artists. I am in awe of each of them. It has been a journey of six years to reach this point, and I could not be more humbled.”
Next the additional cast members, the full round of European co-producers and co-financiers was also unveiled today in a statement from US distributor and major investor Neon.
The film produced by Oppenheimer with his long-time producer Signe Byrge Sørensen of Denmark’s Final Cut for Real, is co-produced by Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Pictures, Germany’s The Match Factory, the UK’s Moonspun Films, Italy’s Dorje Film and Sweden’s Anagram.
On top of Nordisk Film & TV Fond, public organisations and regional funds that have supported the film include the Danish Film Institute, Vestdanske Filmpulje, FilmFyn, Film&Medienstiftung NRW, MDM Fund in Germany, the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC), Sicily Film Commission, Screen Ireland, the UK Global Screen Fund administered by the BFI, the Swedish Film Institute, Film i Skåne and Eurimages.
Scandinavian Film Distribution has secured rights for the Nordic region, with The Match Factory handling international sales.
Neon has released several Nordic films in the US such as Ruben Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness and Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World.
Final Cut for Real was nominated at this year’s Academy Awards with Simon Lereng Wilmont’s documentary A House Made of Splinters.
