TV2 Denmark’s new event crime show directed by Jannik Johansen (The New Nurses, Ragnarok) is produced by SF Studios, with Germany’s ZDF, in association with SquareOne, support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. REinvent handles sales.
The central character in the series is war veteran Niels Oxen, played by Jacob Lohmann (Shorta, Follow the Money). When he is falsely accused of drug possession, and discharged from his military duties, he retreats with his dog in total isolation in Rold Forest. Yet when the owner of the forest, Hans-Otto Corfitzen is found dead, Oxen becomes the prime suspect. However, the chief of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, Frigg Mossman, ends up recruiting Oxen to go undercover, against the knowledge of her own organisation. Suddenly he finds himself in the heart of a deadly web of mysteries.
Next to Ellen Hillingsø (Rita, Fatal Injections) who plays the head of the secret service Frigg Mossmann, Josephine Park (Doggystyle, The Investigation) is cast as secret service agent Margrethe Franck, and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (Borgen, Greyzone, Game of Thrones) as business woman Kajsa Corfitzen.
Star-writing duo Brostrøm and Thorsboe, multiple Emmy-winners for The Eagle, Unit One and The Protectors
said about the series: ““From the beginning, we have been drawn to the story of the three people: the war veteran, the secret service agent and the spy chief, because they believe in community, but also because all three are in a life crisis. They are together against a powerful opponent. It is a complicated intrigue, but also the story of some lonely people who have to reach out to each other in order to survive.”
The Oxen series is produced by SF Studios’ Senia Dremstrup and Michel Schønnemann, with TV2’s Jennifer Green serving as executive producer.
Filming is underway in Copenhagen, Frederikshavn and Funen, and the premiere on TV2 and TV2 Play is set for 2023.
Jensen’s ‘Oxen’ books have been sold to more than 14 European territories and went straight to the top of the best-selling list in Germany.
