One year after its world premiere at the Berlinale and theatrical run in nearly 60 territories, the Finnish/German/Australian sci-fi movie Iron Sky directed by Timo Vuorensola received on Monday an AACTA award - Australia Oscar - for Best Visual Effects.
The film's visual effects were created by Troll VFX's team of 20 artists from Tampere for under one million dollars. "We wanted to do a film that would look like a big budget Hollywood movie and succeeded, although we only had a fraction of the budget," said producer Tero Kaukomaa from Blind Spot Pictures. An extended version of Iron Sky will be available this year, with 20 more minutes of material.

Iron Sky's team - including Troll VFX visual experts - are now preparing a sequel to the sci-fi comedy, and their first Hollywood movie, Jeremiah Harm based on a graphic novel by Alan Grant and Keith Giffen to be produced with Boom! Studios' CEO Ross Ritchie and producer Arnold Rifkin.

Blind Spot Pictures' upcoming feature film 8-Ball directed by Aku Louhimies will screen this week at the Nordic Film Market in Gothenburg before premiering in Finland on February 22, 2013.
