?Film i Väst Debut' is the new support initiative set up by Sweden's main regional film fund to develop new Swedish directors, scriptwriters and producers. The new scheme has a three point strategy targeting debut features, the training of young talents and the creation of a studio as a nurturing ground for upcoming talents.

1-Film i Väst's support to debut features will go towards projects developed outside the traditional financing system. It will cover the majority of the financing of two projects a year with micro-budgets of SEK5 million - 7 million, according to SFI's news service Filmnyheterna. The first project supported is En gång om äret (Once a Year) written and directed by Gorki Glaser-Müller starring Gunilla Röör and Michalis Koutsogiannakis.

2-Film i Väst's Training for Young Talents is a one year programme that will take on three to five selected semi-professionals and their projects. The programme will start in the autumn 2011 or 2012.

3-Film i Väst's new Film Studio will act as a nurturing talent pool where young filmmakers will be able to develop their professional skills, under mentors' guidance. The studio will be set up in collaboration with Danish powerhouse Zentropa.

Recent first feature films co-financed by Film i Väst include the Swedish film She Monkeys, selected at the upcoming Berlinale Generation 14Plus and the 2010 Guldbagge winner for Best Film Sebbe.
