The Norwegian feelgood series produced by Kids in Crime’s Einar Film with Chezville, is toplining DR Sales’ MIPCOM drama slate.
The eight-part romantic comedy Evy & Always (Evy og alltid), is co-created/written by Home for Christmas’ co-writers Miriam Larsen, Julie Skaufel with seasoned director Arild Østin Ommundsen (Monster Thursday, Mongoland) serving as co-writer and director. Silje Salomonsen co-directs.
The show was produced by Julia Joner, Guri Neby, Pål Kruke Kristiansen from Einar Film (Kids in Crime, Handling the Undead) in co-production with Chezville, DR and Yle.
Malene Wadel stars as Evy who goes back to her hometown in Sandnes, Rogaland, to be a maid of honour at her best friend’s wedding, before moving to Paris for a year with her boyfriend. But at the wedding, her boyfriend gets cold feet and dumps her. Stuck in Sandnes, Evy meets old acquaintances, makes new ones and starts to reevaluate her life.
“The starting point for the series was wanting to tell a story about life and locations local to where we come from,” Arild Østin Ommundsen told us. “We live on the southwest coast of Norway, an area that differs quite a lot when it comes to both mentality and humour, as well as visually with its characteristic landscape and towns. The core of the series is to find your own core so to speak. To connect with your roots and realize that it’s possible to be happy in your own skin rather than having to live up to everyone else’s expectations.”
DR Sales’s financial producer Mark Eriksen says about the show: “We decided to acquire For Evy and Always for several reasons. Firstly, it offers a lighthearted look at modern relationships and their intricacies. We see a general trend in the market for brighter, feelgood content and we believe this is a strong contender to fill that role. This combines well with the appealing and relatable premise of returning to one’s roots, away from the big cities, and trying to start anew. Feelings that have become extremely prevalent, particularly, post-COVID. The show also boasts diverse characters and representation, which aligns with our strong commitment to offering inclusive content. This series has the potential to resonate with a wide audience, both domestically and internationally, and contribute significantly to our catalogue.”
For Evy & Always has already premiered on NRK, Yle and DR.
DR Sales will be launching the show at next week’s MIPCOM in Cannes, alongside its rich slate of drama series, ranging from the La Rochelle top drama winner Carmen Curlers, Prix Europa winner Prisoner (Huset) upcoming Danish restaurant show Behind Every Man (Bag enhver mand) produced by Drive Studios for DR, NRK’s State of Happiness S3 and TV2 Norway crime comedy COP (see our story: The Oslo Company wraps the crime comedy COP for TV2 Norway
