Animation studio Copenhagen Bombay has closed sales to over 20 territories (including the US) with Esben Toft Jacobsen’s 3D animated film Beyond Beyond supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
After sales to territories such as France, Germany, Korea, Russia, India and Middle East the family film was snatched by Grindstone Entertainment for North America where Lionsgate Home Entertainment will handle the release.
The deal with Grindstone is a major step forward for Copenhagen Bombay and managing director Sarita Christensen who founded the company in 2006 to create original content for kids and nurture animation talents. Today, Copenhagen Bombay counts 14 employees, 50 freelancers, 15 writers/directors/game developers. The company is fully-integrated, controlling production in Denmark, Sweden (under Petter Lindblad’s aegis), distribution in Denmark, world sales, marketing and transmedia.
At the recent Cartoon Movie where Beyond Beyond screened as opening film, Christensen told nordiskfilmogtvfond.com: “Since the last five years our turnover has averaged €4m and we have been in profit. Our goal is to continue to control and exploit our rights portfolio across all platforms”.
Upcoming projects include the animated features Get Santa by Jacob Ley, Next Door Spy by Karla von Bengtson and the next Jakobsen, a new adventure film but ‘lighter than Beyond Beyond to reach a wider audience, says Christensen.
Beyond Beyond –or Resan till Fjäderkungens rike - will open in Sweden on March 21 through Noble Entertainment and on April 10 in Denmark via Copenhagen Bombay.
