Having Denmark on board was essential for Sjöberg-Lamouroux to slowly reach a Nordic representation. "My idea is to give a snapshot of the latest film trends in the Nordic region, mixed with archive material. We are growing slowly but surely," said the Swedish-born film lover who also pre-selects Scandinavian films for the Cannes Film Festival.
Around 20 feature length and 13 short films will be screening at the Cinema du Pantheon. Three films will be introduced by their filmmakers ahead of their official French theatrical release: Troubled Water by Erik Poppe (December 23, 2009, Jour2fete), Just Another Love Story by Ole Bornedal (January 6, 2010, UGC PH) and North by Rune Denstad Langlo (March 10, Bodega Films).
Other titles include Denmark's Deliver Us from Evil, Applaus and the multi-awarded documentary Burma JV-Report from a Closed Country, Norway's Eggs, Kitchen Stories, and Cold Lunch. As a small focus on FASAD, one of Sweden's most innovative production companies, CineNordica will screen Burrowing and The Ape. Tarik Saleh will also be on hand with Metropia.
The theme ‘Swedish sin' exploring Swedish women on screen will be illustrated by four films: Hon dansade en sommar by Arne Matsson (1951), Sommaren med Monika by Ingmar Bergman, Barnvagnen by Bo Wideberg (1963) and the recent film-homage to Bergman Bilder från lekstugan (Images from the Playground) by Stig Björkman. Another landmark film portraying Scandinavian women on screen, Gertrude by the legendary Carl Theodor Dreyer will be discussed by French director Claire Denis.
