Carmen Curlers tempts Spain, Portugal, The Netherlands and Australia

Exclusive: The Danish feelgood drama series was one of DR Sales’ hottest titles at Mipcom in Cannes.

Deals for the eight-part series created by Mette Heeno, have been secured with Filmin in Spain, SBS in Australia, NPO in the Netherlands and RTP in Portugal, with further deals pending, according to Freja Johanne Nørgaard Sørensen, sales executive at DR Sales.

“After the show’s successful launch in Denmark, (see our separate story: CLICK HERE), buyers’ have been lining up to acquire it,” said Nørgaard Sørensen at Mipcom.

The series spanning over three seasons chronicles the story of one man’s invention - the electric hair curlers - that contributed to women’s liberation in the 1960s.

Buyers in Cannes also showed a strong interest for the youth crime drama Nordland ’99, which premiered on DRTV October 14. There is a huge demand for young skewing dramas. Both for ready-made and remakes,” noted Nørgaard Sørensen.

On the documentary front, DR Sales’ Kim Christiansen, executive producer, documentaries and co-productions, said two titles in particular were hot items on the market: Kristoffer Hegnsvad’s Soviet Bus Stop, and DR’s Hostage Takers which was picked up by VRT for Flemish Belgium and VPRO for the Netherlands at Oslo’s Scandinavian Screening in September.

Christiansen also highlighted the success of Niels Borchert Holm’s Football Leaks story A Game of Secrets produced by Drive Media and Wingman for DR, licenced to SVT, Yle, NRK, RÚV, RTS, HBO, Dogwoof and Bomanbridge Media.
