Both series are supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond - Fallet picked up Best Comedy Drama, Midnight Sun Best Foreign Language Drama at Wedesday’s C21 International Drama Awards in London.
This is the second year in a row that 100 commissioners and buyers attending the annual trade drama event hand out major awards to Nordic dramas, after last year’s Best Foreign Language Drama award to DR’s Follow the Money and Best Digital original series to NRK’s Skam.
The Swedish dramedy Fallet (The Case) produced by FLX for SVT, was preferred to T.A.N.K. (Studio+), Nevsu (Reshet), Back (Chennale 4/Sundance TV) and Gap Year (E4). C21 describes it as ‘thrilling and funny’ show that ‘breaks new ground in Nordic Noir, as we see two unlikely police officers (Lisa Henni and Adam Godley) teaming up to solve a gruesome murder.
The crime thriller Midnight Sun produced by Sweden’s Nice Drama and France’s Atlantique Productions beat five foreign language contenders including HBO Europe’s Wasteland. Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein won earlier for the series Best Director, Screenwriter, New TV Series at Roma Fiction Festival and the Audience Award at Series Mania 2016. Studiocanal Handles sales.

C21 International Drama Awards’ top winner was The Handmaid’s Tale produced by MGM/UA for the streaming giant Hulu, voted Best English language drama series and Best Female Performance for Elisabeth Moss.
US streaming competitor Netflix took Best Casting of a Drama Series for The Crown (Left Bank Pictures) and Best TV Movie for Black Mirror: San Junipero (Endemol Shine Group), while HBO won Best mini-series with Big Little Lies.
