Set in contemporary Oslo, the film Olsenbanden-Siste skrik (lit. The Olsen Gang-The Last Scream) is directed by Hallvard Bræin for Nordisk Film Production.
The feature project spearheaded by seasoned producers John Einar Hagen (The Tunnel) and Sveinung Golimo (Børning, Trollhunter) is based on a script by Karsten Fullu (Captain Sabertooth and the Magic Diamond, Three Wishes for Cinderella).
Set in contemporary Oslo, the film follows the celebrated criminal Olsen trio Egon, Benny and Kjell, as they are readying for the next big coup that will make them millionaires. Now Egon has laid out the perfect plan: they will break into the new world-class Munch Museum by Oslo’s waterfront (set to open officially in the fall 2021) and steal Edvard Munch’s most celebrated work The Scream. Everything is timely and arranged for the heist, but others have heard of their plans and police superintendent Hermansen is doing what they can to stop them.
“The Olsen Gang is one of the most famous and beloved Norwegian film heritage we have, and it is a great pleasure for us to be able to bring these iconic characters back to the cinema”, said John Einar Hagen who promises to give the audience “a recognisable, but at the same time modern Olsen gang film.”
More than 14 Norwegian feature adaptations of the cult Danish franchise were filmed between 1969-1999.
Hallvard Bræin - behind the three Børning hit films - said directing a modern take of the Olsen Gang brand was an offer he couldn’t refuse. “I grew up with the original films, which I still love to watch,” he said.
Nordisk Film said well-known actors and rising stars for the three main parts will soon be announced.
The film is due to premiere in Norway in the fall 2022.
