This is Danish director Pernille Fischer Christensen’s third film selected at the Berlinale, after her feature debut A Soap (winner of the Jury Grand Prize (ex-æquo) and Best First Feature in 2006) and A Family, competition entry in 2010. 

Fischer Christensen said she is ‘grateful and honoured’ to come to Berlin with Becoming Astrid “It is a film that means a lot to me personally and we are, as we speak, working day and night to have a beautiful film to show."

The film written by Kim Fupz Aakeson, tells of a specific event that had an impact on the creator of Pippi Longstocking during her youth, and came to shape her entire life. In the title role is Alba August, (Shooting Star 2018 in Berlin) who plays against Trine Dyrholm, Magnus Krepper, Maria Bonnevie, Henrik Rafaelsen and Björn Gustafsson. 

The film was produced by Sweden’s Avanti Film and Nordisk Film Production, in co-production with Germany’s DCM Pictures, with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond among others. Nordisk Film Distribution will release it in the fall 2018. TrustNordisk handles sales. 

A total of 12 feature films and seven TV dramas will screen at the Berlinale Special programme. So far 23 our of 24 titles competing for the Golden Bear have been unveiled, including the Swedish film The Real Estate co-directed by Måns Månsson and Axel Petersén.
