The realistic drama produced by Rubicon TV has been picked up for global distribution outside the Nordics by Banijay Rights.
The eight-part series Nach (After Party
in English) is co-created by Anne Bjørnstad (Beforeigners, Lilyhammer), Head of Drama at Rubicon, together with rising talents Ernst De Geer, multi-awarded for his short film The Culture (2018) and Mads Stegger. De Geer is co-directing with Fanny Ovesen, Nordic Talents winner 2018. Bjørnstad is executive producing, together with Rubicon’s Head of Production Fridrik H. Mar, and Discovery Networks Norway’s Fredrik Kvåle Dørum. Stine Blichfeldt is serving as producer.
The show follows university dropout Selma as she struggles with feelings for her half-sister’s boyfriend August. After being thrown out of her house-share, she moves in with big sister Elin and becomes caught up with emotions for her sister’s boyfriend. The situation unravels during eight very different after parties throughout the summer.
In the title roles are Sarah Francesca Brænne (Wisting), Fredrik Stenberg Ditlev-Simonsen (22 July) and Ingrid Giæver (Thelma).
Bjørnstad said: “Nach captures the borrowed time and carefree atmosphere of a party before daybreak when real life hasn’t yet begun. It mirrors the phase when young people make momentous decisions which alter their path forever. This realistic drama portrays this unique time of the human journey and will have viewers hooked.”
Lars Blomgren, Head of Scripted at Banijay added: “Norwegian drama is well-known for its fantastic quality and Nach lives up to all expectations of the market’s creativity. This nostalgic tale of life blossoming into adulthood is beautifully produced and is a wonderful addition to Banijay’s scripted slate.”
The youth drama will premiere on Discovery in the Nordics this spring.
The US group Discovery Inc.'s Nordic TV outposts have been ramping up their commissioning of scripted dramas for the streaming service discovery+ and channels in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
Among the new Nordic shows set to premiere this spring is the Swedish short format comedy Supermom (Udda veckor) co-produced by Feelgood Film in Norway and FLX in Sweden, with backing from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
