The legendary ABBA co-founder Benny Andersson (pictured) and his son Ludvig have set up the film production company RMV Film to bring to the screen the supernatural ‘Engelsfors trilogy’ written by Mats Strandberg and Sara Bergmark Elfgren. The first part of the trilogy, The Circle, will be directed by Levan Akin (Real Humans).

Bergmark Elfgren who will co-write the screenplay with Akin says The Circle is about six 16-year-old girls who live in the fictional Swedish small town of Engelsfors. They all come from different social groups and backgrounds but are forced to come close to each other when they discover that they are witches. An ancient evil is hunting them and they have to start cooperating in order to survive.

The project will be produced by the experienced Cecilia Norman Mardell who has been attached to several SVT series such as Livet I Fagervik (Small Town Law), Bibliotektsjuven (The Library Thief) and was production manager on the hit sci-fi drama Real Humans.

In an interview to the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, Ludvig Andersson said that besides the magic aspect of the story, what attracted him are other elements such as what it is to be a teenager and to live in different family relationships. The project should start filming early 2014.

Benny Andersson was executive producer of the film version of the musical Mamma Mia. The musician and composer has also accepted to re-team with his former ABBA partner Björn Ulvaeus to create the anthem of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest that will be performed for the first time on May 18.
