NonStop Entertainment has acquired three Berlinale competition entries including the US film Prince Avalanche by David Gordon Green, winner of a Silver Bear for Best Direction. The comedy starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch (pictured) is a remake of the Icelandic film Either Way by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson which was nominated for the Nordic Council Film Prize 2012. Prince Avalanche was bought for Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the Baltics. Richard Linklater's Before Midnight was picked up for the same territories plus Iceland, and Gus van Sant's Promised Land was bought for Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. NonStop Entertainment also acquired for those four territories the Venice Golden Lion winner Pieta by Kim Ki-Duk and Venice FIPRESCI winner At Any Price starring Zac Efrom. Ken Loach's documentary Spirit of 45 and the UK comedy Sightseers by Ben Wheatley were bought for the five Nordic territories plus the Baltics.
The Berlinale 2013 Golden Bear winner for Best Film was the Romanian drama Child's Pose. The Danish/Norwegian/UK documentary The Act of Killing won the Panorama Audience Award and the Documentary Prize from the Ecumenical Jury (see main news story to be published this Friday). The Swedish short film The First Time by Anders Hazelus won the Grand Prix of the Generation 14Plus International Jury and the short film The Date by Finland's Jenni Toivoniemi collected a Crystal Bear, Special Mention.
