Danica Curcic, Gustav Skarsgård and Ullrich Thomsen are currently filming in Gothenburg the Swedish/Danish co-production Darling set in the world of Danish Royal Ballet.  The director Birgitte Stærmose (Norskov, Room 304) and the cast and crew were on hand for a press meeting last week at the Opera in Gothenburg.

Scripted by Kim Fupz Aakeson based on an idea developed together with Stærmose, the drama focuses on a woman who has the courage to stand up and rebuild her career when everything seems to collapse. Curcic plays the prima ballerina Darling who returns to Denmark with her husband/choreographer Franz (Skarsgård) after several years abroad, to bring Giselle to Copenhagen’s Royal Theatre. During rehearsals Darling has a serious injury that brings her career to a standstill.

The film is produced by Zentropa Entertainments3’s Peter Aalbæk Jensen, Marie Gade Denessen and Louise Vesth in co-production with Zentropa International Sweden’s Madeleine Ekman, Lizette Jonjic, FilmVäst’s Simon Perry, in collaboration with TV2 Denmark and support from the Danish Film Institute, Swedish Film Institute and Creative Europe. Nordisk Film will release the film in Danish cinemas on April 27, 2017.
