Danish producer Vinca Wiedemann* (photo) has joined Zentropa to work on the company's single film and television projects and its overall artistic profile.
Wiedemann who graduated as an editor from the Danish film school has put her imprint on Danish film during the last 15 years, working as producer, screenwriter, Feature Film Commissioner at the Danish Film Institute (1999-2003) and Artistic Director of New Danish Screen (2003-2007). Over the last couple of years, wearing her cap as freelance consultant, she has worked on several Zentropa productions, as producer of Pernille Fischer Christensen's A Family (sharing the production credit with Sisse Graum Jørgensen), script consultant on the TV series Blekingegade (The Left Wing Gang) and Lars von Trier's upcoming Melancholia.
As a full time employee at Zentropa, she will collaborate very closely with the company's filmmakers, scriptwriters and producers, overseeing the entire creative process of each project from script stage to production. "My role will be to optimize the artistic potential of the projects," said Wiedemann. "I will also help Zentropa define its artistic profile and establish the best creative environment possible for its various production branches, both in the Nordic region and across Europe."
Acknowledging the fact that most recently, many Danish films have had difficulty finding an audience at home, Wiedemann says: "we need to revitalize our storytelling and challenge ourselves." New projects on which Wiedemann is currently working on include new feature films by Pernille Fischer Christensen and Katrina Wiedemann (Vinca's sister) written by Kim Fupz Aakeson.
