ZDF Enterprises is co-producing and handling global distribution and format rights outside Scandinavia, under SF Studios’ aegis.

Grow (original title Alfa) is the latest creation from the Avaz brothers (While We Live, Collision) and their first foray into TV drama.

Milad Avaz is both writing and directing while his brothers Misam and Mehdi are producing for their company Rocket Road Pictures.

A tale of self-discovery and morality, Grow evolves into a suspenseful thriller. It focuses on Adam, a young stockbroker, dissatisfied with his ordinary life. Captivated by the murky underworld of drug dealing, he sets up a cartel with the ambition to become Denmark’s top drug lord. His two worlds collide as he faces his brother Jakob, a policeman on the anti-drugs unit, who is also trying to come to terms with who he really is.

The Avaz brothers’ regular collaborator, actor Sebastian Jessen (Ride Upon the Storm, While We Live) plays Jakob and his real-life brother Andreas Jessen (Something’s Rockin’) is Adam. Co-stars include Lars Mikkelsen, Ari Alexander (Rita, Doggystyle) and Besir Zeciri (When the Dust Settles, The Bridge).

Robert Franke, vice-president ZDFE.drama at ZDF Enterprises, said: “Grow is an exceptional drama with many layers. It is suspenseful but also thought-provoking and the theme of inner conflict, that runs throughout the series, will resonate with audiences all over the world.”

ZDFE plans to launch the series at the upcoming MIPCOM 2020.
