Andersson's previous film Songs from the Second Floor was Sweden's entry for an Oscar in 2000. You, the Living was produced by Pernilla Sandström for Roy Andersson Filmproduktion with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The tragic-comedy about the human being had its premiere in Cannes last May in Un Certain Regard. Since then, the film has been a hot ticket with world film festivals (30 invitations in 2007) and international distributors (28 countries sold by the Coproduction Office).
The film opened a Swedish Film Week in Moscow last Wednesday and will then continue its world tour with Athens, Reykjavik, Pusan, Vancouver and Chicago.
Back home, the film had its premiere last Friday through Andersson's own distribution company Studio 24, and sold 8,000 tickets from 28 prints in the first three-day weekend.
The Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22, 2008 and the 80th Academy Awards ceremony will take place February 24 in Los Angeles.
