The Swedish film based on Alex Schulman’s eponymous novel is due to start production in 2021 for SF Studios.

Zacco has contributed to the TV dramas Quicksand, Thicker than Water, Blue Eyes, Farang as episodic writer and was head-writer of C More/TV4’s upcoming premium drama Top Dog. She will be responsible for adapting Schulman’s semi-autobiographical novel to the silver screen, working in collaboration with the author and Runge.

Set between three timelines - the early 1930s, 1980s and present time, the novel weaves together three perspectives into a story of love and tragedy that overwrites both time and space.

Schulman tells the story of his own grandmother Karin Stolpe, who had a secret love affair in the early 1930s, with a young writer Olof Lagercrantz, while married to high profile author Sven Stolpe. In search for answers in the present, Schulman is reminded of a pivotal moment in his childhood, in 1988, when he stumbled upon a pile of letters that sent shockwaves through the household. Did the love between Karin and Olof not end in 1932?

"One of the biggest challenges with this book is to write a working script, a text that allows characters and storytelling to live as a moving image. And for this challenge, I can't imagine a better and more responsive screenwriter than Veronica," said The Wife’s Runge.

Annika Sucksdorff, Studios’ Head of Film Production in Sweden told www.nordicfilmandtvnews.com that she is in discussions with co-production partners in Norway and Denmark and expects the final script to be delivered in the fall 2020. REInvent Studios will handle world sales on the ambitious Nordic project.
