Grenseland (Borderline) is TV2 Norway’s event series for this autumn.
The Norwegian crime show produced by Monster Scripted for TV2 is among four Nordic series selected at the French Festival de la Fiction de la Rochelle (September 13-17).
The 8x45’ crime show stars Kon-Tiki actor Tobias Santelmann as homicide detective Nikolai Andreassen who becomes involved in criminal endeavours involving his own family. Ellen Dorrit Petersen (Blind) co-stars. Megan Gallagher, former consultant on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, is writer/co-creator and Gunnar Vikene (The Third Eye) is concept director. The series is co-produced by Sky Deutschland and Sweden’s Nice Drama.
Other Nordic dramas selected for La Rochelle’s European competition strand include Norway’s fantasy family series Zombielars (Tordenfilm, NRK), Denmark’s Something’s Rockin’ about the rise and fall of Radio Mercur (SAM Productions, TV2 Charlie) and the Swedish thriller Black Lake (Jarowskij, TV3) set to air on BBC Four and AMC’s Shudder streaming service.
Carole Villevet who sits on La Rochelle’s European selection Committee said this is the first time the Nordic region has such a strong line up, dominating this year’s 10-title European drama slate. “In addition to showing the latest productions and Scandinavia's great know-how in Nordic noir, we have selected series that show the great ability of these countries to renew themselves and venture into totally different genres.”
Monster Scripted producer Håkon Briseid (Nobel, Grenseland), and Tordenfilm’s Thomas Seeberg Torjussen, co-creator of ZombieLars will also attend a seminar dedicated to Norwegian TV drama.
La Rochelle’s country guest of honour this year is South Korea and French actress/writer Sylvie Testud is president of the jury. The festival is a major audience-led TV drama festival in France, attracting around 35,000 visitors and industry people each year.
