The Danish/Icelandic film Winter Brothers and DR Drama series Ride Upon the Storm won 9 and 3 awards each at the annual Danish film and TV awards held on Sunday evening.

Hlynur Pálmason’s directorial debut turned nine of its 15 nominations into awards, such as Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor (Elliott Crosset Hove). The drama produced by Denmark’s Masterplan Pictures with Iceland’s Join Motion Pictures, has collected a dozen international film awards since its world premiere at Locarno.

The other major Robert winner was the animated film The Incredible Story of a Giant Pear, awarded Best Children & Youth Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. Christian Tafdrup’s second film A Horrible Woman which has sold more than 155,000 tickets in Denmark, won Best Original Script, which the director shared with his writing partner and brother Mads Tafdrup. Amanda Collin was voted Best Actress for her role as the ‘horrible woman’.

Feras Fayyad’s Oscar nominated film Last Men in Aleppo about the Syrian conflict, won Best Documentary film, and Norway’s Jakob Oftebro won Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Man by Charlotte Sieling.

In the TV category, Ride Upon the Storm picked up Best Drama series, while the show’s actors Lars Mikkelsen and Ann Leonora Jørgensen who play respectively the priest Johannes and his wife, won accolades in their respective categories. The show was awarded last week the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize for Best Script and a Danish TV award or ‘Tvprisen’ for Best Drama series.

DR Drama’s other premium series The Legacy 3 won Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

The 34th Robert awards were selected by the Danish Film Academy’s 2,000 members.

Nordisk Film & TV Fond was associated to nine awards for The Incredible Story of the Giant Pear, The Man, Man Divided, The Last Men in Aleppo, The Square and Ride Upon the Storm. Winter Brothers received development money from the Fund as winner of the Nordic Talents 2013 Special Mention Prize.
