The Nordic streamer scores with 6 nominations for Ida Takes Charge, Made in Oslo, Pørni S2, ahead of NRK’s three nods for Rod Nock S3 and State of Happiness S2.

The nominations for this year’s Series Critics’ Awards (Seriekritikerprisen) were announced on Monday by Norway’s leading media outlet Aftenposten, co-organiser of Oslo Series Days (Oslo Seriedagene), which will be hosting the awards on September 15 at the Vega Scene.

Three series are competing for Best Norwegian TV drama and Best Actor in a Norwegian show:

  • Viaplay’s darkly humorous series Ida Takes Charge (Ida tar ansvar) produced by Anagram Norway, the fertility drama Made in Oslo produced by Tordenfilm, and NRK’s oil drama State of Happiness S2 produced by Maipo Film.
  • Viaplay’s hit comedy drama Pørni season 2 produced by Monster Scripted, gets a chance to double last year’s wins for Henriette Steenstrup’s outstanding performance in the main acting category and Best Norwegian comedy.

Single nominees include:

  • TV2’s Kasko produced by Spark-Best Norwegian Comedy. The show created by stand-up comedian Jonis Josef with director Mikael Samuelsen earned a Series Mania nod this year.
  • Netflix’s vampire spoof Post-Morten-No One Dies in Skarnes produced by Motion Blur-Best Norwegian comedy.
  • NRK’s youth drama Rod Knock S3 produced by Fenomen - Best Actor in a Norwegian Series. Season 2 won Best Norwegian TV show at last year’s Series Critics Awards.

The nominees were selected by 19 critics from Norwegian media outlets.
Cecilie Asker, chair of this year’s jury and Culture Editor at Aftenposten said: “This year’s nominations show that there have really been new competitors in the streaming market and we see that users patterns are changing. It is no longer the traditional TV channels that have enough budget and resources to make the best series. The fact that the streaming service Viaplay has more nominations than NRK this year is a clear sign of this,” she noted.

The Series Critics’ Awards are part of the TV industry showcase Oslo Series Days (September 12-16), which is expecting over 700 professionals from the Nordics and internationally.

This year’s Norwegian TV event will be hosting the bi-annual joint-Nordic sales platform Scandinavian Screenings (September 12-14) as well as the Nordic Script training programme powered by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
