TrustNordisk adds Darkland: Case Closed to Cannes slate

Darkland: Case Closed is being produced by Denmark’s Profile Pictures, behind the Cannes competition entry Holy Spider by Ali Abbasi.

The film is a sequel to Ahmad’s 2017 hit Darkland which was sold by TrustNordisk to numerous key territories including the UK/Ireland (Studiocanal), Germany/Austria (TeleMünchen) and Japan (Gaga).

The story about the surgeon-turned avenger Zaid played by Dar Salim (Borgen, Warrior), is set seven years after the original feature.

Co-stars include Stine Fischer Christensen (As in Heaven, After the Wedding) and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen (Borgen, Pitch Perfect 2). The film which is currently filming in Copenhagen will be delivered next year.

“We are beyond excited to once again team up with Fenar and Profile Pictures on this strong action thriller, which works both as a sequel and on its own,” said TrustNordisk’ CEO Susan Wendt.

Wendt and her sales team will be negotiating pre-sales on seven other features including the suspense thriller Birthday Girl by Michael Noer (Northwest, Before the Frost), period drama Unruly by Malou Reymann (A Perfectly Normal Family) and animated film Just Super by Rasmus A. Sivertsen (Louis & Luca Mission to the Moon).

Other priority titles on Denmark’s Cannes slate is Lars von Trier’s five-part The Kingdom Exodus, follow up to his cult series exploring good and evil.

The Viaplay/DR series produced by Zentropa is being sold as a package with the two first series, fully remastered.

Completed films to be unveiled at closed market screenings in Cannes include the Zentropa-produced Forever by rising Danish talent Frelle Petersen (Uncle) and the Tribeca-selected Attachment by Gabriel Bier Gislason produced by Nordisk Film.

Finally TrustNordisk will be screening both online and in Cannes cinemas the teen romance So Damn Easy Going which opened the Göteborg Film Festival and the family-skewed animated Little Allan-The Human Antenna, pre-sold to several territories including France (KMBO).
